A nine-month Apprenticeship Program at Camp Roger will give gap year, and recent college grads a residential experience living and working in an outdoor education setting. Become part of the year round camp community who ensure the success of camp in the fall, winter, and spring, and summer. We are looking for individuals who are interested in cultivate their gifts through a variety of unique experiences. Through outdoor education leadership, curriculum planning, staff meetings, site projects, program development, and the mentorship of our staff, learn to root yourself more deeply in God’s vision for you. Encounter God’s love with kids in the woods; develop new skills; challenge yourself; celebrate the beauty of the ordinary.

Senior Apprentice program: Designed for post-college graduates, the Senior Apprenticeship program offers young people non-profit career experience with an emphasis on leadership. Along with work experience in different areas of non-profit ministry, primarily focused in Outdoor Education, Senior Apprentices will get opportunities to bring their own passions to camp’s mission: developing programs, learning marketing, re-thinking curriculum. Senior Apprentices with a passion for mentorship will also get the opportunity to encourage and support Apprentices through Bible study, service, and social events, as well as modeling, encouragement, and prayer.
Apprentice program: Designed for post-high school graduates, the Apprenticeship program offers young people non-profit career experience with an emphasis on growth and discipleship. Through work experience and intentional development days, Apprentices will have the opportunity to encounter and celebrate God’s love by discovering their own passions and gifts. Apprentices can immerse themselves in a purposeful community committed to spiritual growth, celebrating relationships and experiences built amidst 200+ acres of woods, lakes, and rivers.
Both programs will run from August 28, 2017 to May 25, 2017. Housing will be provided at the Camp Roger campus for the duration of the apprenticeship. Housing assignments will be made once the hiring process is completed.
All apprentices will gain experience working with kids through one or more of our Outdoor Education programs (Homeschool Program, School Groups, etc.). Every apprentice will also receive training in the elements of our ropes course (Climbing Tower, High Ropes, Zipline).

Lauren Harris is the Assistant Director of Outdoor Education at Camp Roger, and the lead coordinator for our Apprenticeship program. Prior to working at camp, Lauren was a classroom teacher for 2 years, and a mentor in a variety of roles at camp. She looks to hire apprentices who are passionate about kids, the outdoors, and purposefully growing in their faith.
To apply for an apprenticeship, complete an online application as well as a reference form about yourself. We will also need to have 3 other reference forms turned in completed by others who know you well. (i.e. past employer, church mentor, etc.) Applications may be submitted at any time. The application deadline is May 31, 2017.
Applicant interviews are set up as applications are received. Once you submit an application, you should hear back regarding your placement in the process within a week or two. If you apply for more than one position (i.e. summer staff and apprenticeship), your apprentice interview may be conducted later in the season.
