Camp Scottie Campus
The History of Camp Scottie
Founded in 1975 by the Osterink family, Camp Scottie has served as a vibrant place of ministry for greater West Michigan for over 40 years. In partnership with Eastminster Presbyterian Church of Grand Rapids, Camp Scottie served youth groups, church groups, boy scouts, and many others throughout its history to build relationships and the faith of participants. Through experiences in nature, camp participants experienced the love of God and grew healthy relationships. The 85-acre property includes an outdoor chapel, running stream and swimming pond, a 40-person retreat center with full kitchen and gathering space for dining and recreation, a “shelter house” to gather in small groups, and several hiking trails to accent the natural beauty of Camp Scottie.
Over the past 5 years, the Osterink family has been prayerfully discerning the future of Camp Scottie and seeking out the right partner to steward Camp Scottie and ensure its’ use for kingdom purposes for the next season of ministry in Howard City. During this time, several renovations and improvement projects were started in an effort to prepare Camp Scottie for the next chapter of ministry. In December of 2014, conversations began between Camp Roger and Camp Scottie to dream of a partnership to expand the ministry of Camp Roger and ensure the vitality of Camp Scottie for the foreseeable future. In the fall of 2015, Camp Scottie officially became part of Camp Roger as an extension and expansion of its mission.

Day Camp in 2017
Camp Roger will continue to serve kids by providing a high quality residential camp experience. There are no short-term or long-term plans to host a residential camp at Camp Scottie. We are currently working on the Day Camp program for Camp Scottie that will launch in the summer of 2017. We are in the learning phase to build a high quality Day Camp that serves kids from West Michigan and provides great summer experiences that help kids encounter and celebrate God’s love through relationships and experiences in creation.
RV/Campsites in 2017
Beginning in the fall 2017, Camp Scottie will have several group camping and RV sites to expand the accommodations of camp for church groups, school groups, organizations, and family reunions. The goal is to provide water and electrical hook-ups for the RV sites and water access for the camping sites in close proximity to restrooms in the Creekside Center. We are still working through the details of the Group Camping and RV Site accommodations and will communicate the specific plans as they become clear.
Future plans will include an expansion of the Camp Roger Outdoor Education program that has been growing over the past 15 years. Camp Scottie includes several new natural resources and ecosystems to explore and study with school groups and organizations. We are excited to explore these learning opportunities and be a resource for Newaygo County and surrounding schools and organizations near Camp Scottie.
