GO Days (Get Outside Days) are scheduled, one-day outdoor education days for students at Camp Roger in Rockford. GO Days take place almost completely outdoors and within small groups.
Students will be placed in small groups of similar ages and will engage in fun, educational, and age-appropriate activities led by well-trained, experienced staff. The specific activities will be determined by the weather. GO Days could include several of the following activities: engaging with a group in team building, maneuvering the maze, building survival fires, building shelters, learning how to cook outdoors, orienteering, learning how to snowshoe, developing archery skills, as well as interactive lessons on wetlands, water cycles, or animals and their habitats. GO Days offer hands-on learning activities that help promote a greater love and better understanding of our world, our neighbors, and ourselves.
Students will spend most of the day outdoors, so please dress for the weather - snow, rain, cold, or all three! Pack a water bottle and lunch, put a smile on your face, and come to Camp Roger for a great day of learning and playing outdoors.

Camp Roger’s GO Days: Young Explorers Winter Session is a nature program for children 3-5 years old to attend alongside a parent, grandparent, or caregiver. Young Explorers is created with little kids in mind and offers fun, hands-on, educational activities in Camp Roger’s woods. Each scheduled day will provide the child and adult caregiver time to get outside together to explore, discover, and learn about the world around them.
Young Explorers will be held as a Winter Session which includes three different dates in January, February, and March. Each program day Camp Roger educators will introduce a nature-based topic and facilitate age-appropriate activities and learning. We will do much of this outdoors and in our indoor classroom.
Sample Schedule:
10:00 am Arrive at Camp Roger/meet our educators
10:15 am Let’s learn about nature and get moving outside
11:45 am Move indoors to Heetderks Center
12:00 pm Say goodbye!
Children and their adult caregivers may be in various outdoor conditions, so please dress warmly for the weather! Waterproof boots, mittens, hats, and layers are great options. Pack a water bottle, snack, and be ready to experience the wonder of nature.
Young Explorers is not a drop-off, daycare program. Camp Roger has restrooms available indoors.

GO Day FAQ
Does the Same caregiver need to attend each Young Explorers session?
No, a different adult caregiver may attend with the registered child. Every adult and child must fill out a GO Days: Young Explorers Waiver.
How many children can I bring to Young Explorers?
For GO Days: Young Explorers, an adult caregiver can bring up two registered children ages 3 - 5. Each child must be registered separately by his parent. To experience the complete morning out in the woods, we recommend that toddlers and babies not attend unless in a baby carrier or off-road style stroller.
My student is attending GO Days with a friend. Can they be in the same group?
Students are welcome to request one or two friends, within two years of each other, through the online registration form. Make sure friends request to be with your child as well. Requests should be reciprocal.
Will I receive confirmation once I register my child?
After you register a child, you will receive a confirmation email that includes an account statement indicating your registered sessions. Additional program information, including drop-off and pick-up procedures and what to wear/bring, will be emailed to you a week or so prior to your registered program start date.
Do I need to make a deposit?
Program fees must be paid in full at the time of registration.
Can I schedule my child for more than one GO DAY (If offered)?
Yes, you may register for as many GO Days as you would like, as they are scheduled. GO Days may overlap some themes from day to day but each day will have a different focus. We have many different adventures planned for your kids.
GO Days: Young Explorer program is a Winter Session of three dates. You will register for one session for that program.

What Happens if there is bad weather?
We will use Rockford Public Schools as a guide for canceling during bad weather and you will be notified by email if there is a cancellation. We plan to run the program in cold and snowy weather even if Rockford does not cancel. Program time includes indoor and outdoor activities that can be adjusted for a fun and safe experience.
How do I cancel my child’s scheduled GO DAY session?
Prior to the program start date, you may request to switch GO Days or cancel your child’s registration by calling the camp office or emailing our registrar. Prompt notification is appreciated and may allow for another student to register. Sessions can be switched at no cost as openings allow. A $15 administrative fee will be charged for cancellations, and the remainder of your payment will be refunded with adequate notice. Registrations are non-transferable.
